OK, you're right! This little tool doesn't come with instructions. So here they are:(1) Figure out which side of the "UFO" is the TOP -- as you see in my photo #1, the screw hole is visible inside the nut. The head of the screw on the BOTTOM (photo 2) has a hex head.(2) Unscrew the two parts completely (photo 3) and carefully unwrap a razor blade.(3) Place the blade over the screw sticking up through the bottom part (photo 4).(4) Replace the top part and tighten the two pieces with a small portion of the blade protruding (photo 5).(5) Slash and/or decorate your bread and bake (photo 6).(6) Loosen the two parts of the tool, store the razor blade inside, and tighthen until the next loaf of bread.This is a great little tool which is no larger in diameter than the length of the razor blade. Keeping the exposed part of the blade short gives the best control over your fine decorations, but you may want to lengthen it to make primary slashes . . . or find a happy medium. Bake on! Artisans!!
