This book is a great read. It reminded me of famous political satires, and parodies of such great writers as George Orwell (1984) and Jonathan Swift (Gulliver's Travels). While the comedy is almost Wodehousean! The novel describes, with intricacy, the plots, sub-plots, treachery, the subversion and the intrigue in the royal palace, in the eternal struggle between the good and the evil. The caricatures of the various gods of the Hindu pantheon will certainly upset the orthodox and the religious, but none the less, these godly creatures do exactly what is expected of them from the scriptures!I highly recommend this book to people who are aware of the Hindu Mythology. For people unaware, it might be a hard plot to follow, in spite of its simplicity. Those, who saw and felt "Mahabharata" by Peter Brooks and felt it was blasphemous, may like to stay away from this book. Other than those few caveats, I recommend this book very strongly.
